What’s New - Your Insider’s Report

September 25, 2009

new_sergers.jpg We are so excited about all the new product that was introduced by Husqvarna Viking at a dealer meeting earlier this week.

First up on the menu was the long anticipated serger lineup. There are 3 fabulous, easy to use new Huskylocks. You can watch a video about them on Husqvarna Viking's Australian site here. And guess what? Two of them have the coveted cover-stitch, and an extension table! Now you can have industry perfect hems, whip up swim wear and lingerie, and be creative in new ways, all at a lower price point! These sergers will be in store very soon, and we would love to show them off.

There are many new notions as well. Create a designer touch with the Mega Piping Foot, or the Ribbon Foot Set. Both feet will fit all Husqvarna Viking models. And as you get ready for Christmas, you will love the three new Design Collections; Christmas Giving, Precious Crochet and Needlework Nostalgia. And coming soon, Old English White Embroideries and Classic Quiltblocks. These are multi-format collections and so can be used by all brands of embroidery machine.

And, new software! The Inspira 4D QuiltDesign Creator is a stand-alone program, or one that can be added to your existing 4D Software. It will allow you to create Quilt Designs from scratch to use with the Q-bot on the frame, or in your embroidery hoop. We are doing our best to line up an introductory test drive class at our software retreat next month - another reason to join us at the Elora Mill!

All new products will be arriving in the next few weeks. We are taking pre-orders, and will keep you posted as product arrives. Call or visit now to get your name on a list for first rights as they come in.

Sew Many Reasons to Shop SewEtc!

September 24, 2009

mom_and_Daughter.jpg Welcome to our store! We are a family owned and operated business located in Burlington, ON. Sewing Machines Etcetera was opened in 1992 by Bert and Elsa Hopman with the goal of providing sewers with quality sewing machines, repairs and tools, as well as the knowledge to use them. The business is now in the hands of the next generation, Nick and Erika Kottelenberg, who desire to continue the tradition of award-winning service.

Year after year, we have been received the Burlington Post's Reader's Choice for Best in Sewing Supplies. We believe we are also the best in pampering your machine, providing fun (often free) education, and remembering your name.

Our spacious, well lit store caters to sewers of all types. From Learn to Sew Classes for all ages to a Quilt Frame Rental Program to a well stocked Fibre Arts section, we have something for everyone. And we always say, if you don't find it here, we can likely get it! Most special orders arrive within less than 2 weeks. We pride ourselves in having Burlington's largest selection of specialty threads and designer buttons. This has made us the go-to place for knitters as well! We are an exclusive dealer of Husqvarna Viking sewing machines and sergers. We also carry Rowenta and Reliable ironing tools, Collins and Clover notions, Sulky stabilizers, Amy Butler fabrics and more.

Browse our site for a preview of what we offer, then pop in for the real thing... We would love to see you in-store soon!

Happy Anniversary to Us!

September 21, 2009

fabric_cake.jpg It's been an eventful summer for us, hasn't it? With the last newsletter, we announced the transfer of the business to the next generation. Sewing Machines Etcetera is now owned and operated by Nick and Erika Kottelenberg, son-in-law and daughter of Bert and Elsa Hopman (who, yes, are still working at the store).

Now we can celebrate our 17th anniversary. What a mile-marker! We are grateful to Bert and Elsa for establishing a business we could take over. We are also grateful to you, our customers for the support you have shown over the years. You have sewn and grown with us, making us feel part of a larger sewing family.

We want to thank you for your continued patronage. Come in for a cup of coffee and browse during our Anniversary 3-Day Sale, starting today and ending Saturday. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Family Business Sews Into the Future

September 10, 2009

Nick_Signs_copy.jpg This past week, Nick Kottelenberg (our lovable Store Manager), took ownership of his in-laws business, established 18 years ago.

Erika and Nick are both excited to serve the sewing community by taking a new direction with classes and service. They plan to take sewing out of the store and into the homes of sewing enthusiasts across Halton

Offering personalized workshops by request for groups outside of the store, they hope to bring education to those who can't make it to the store, or to those that want to share an creative learning experience with friends in the comfort of their homes.

Online communication, upcoming Webinars, machine pickup for service, tutorials, and sewing tips by email, Twitter, and Facebook are all on the horizon.

We are all excited by this milestone in their lives and in the store's history. More importantly, we would like to thank Bert and Elsa for building a place of warmth, creativity, and friendship that helped us love our hobby even more!
