Our Haiti Connection
January 18, 2010
By now, most of the world has heard about the earthquake in Haiti, and the devestation it has caused there. What many of you may not know, is our connection to relief efforts there.
One of the charities we support both as a family and through the store is Coram Deo International Aid (CDIA). CDIA started its work in Haiti by building a school outside Porte au Prince. Education was given there, as well as medical care and 2 meals a day to the families of students. This school was destroyed in the earthquake.
Thankfully, all the staff and students were outside at the time, participating in a basketball tournament. 2 members of the board of directors were visiting, and they have since returned to Canada to help coordinate fundraising for the relief effort. John Kottelenberg (Nick's uncle) was sitting on a bench outside the school walls when things started to move. You can read an interview with him by the Hamilton Spec here.
CDIA is accepting donations towards the relief efforts. You can read more about this organization, view pictures and donate at their website. Your prayers and gifts will be received with thanks.
